"Eos" is a visual journey through the border landscapes of a Siberian nature reserve, where strange artifacts, phenomena, and people meet in a special relationship with space. The book serves as a guide to the land of bizarre rocks — Krasnoyarsk Stolby National Park — the place where my identity and worldview were formed.
The project intertwines photographs from nine years of my life within the Stolbism culture. From this archive, I collected and analysed different series, but in this book, Stolby take on a very personal form, remaining a mysterious tale for the viewer about those wandering in the night, only slightly opening the door to the history of this unique place.
Eos, the goddess of dawn, symbolizes the coming of light and the departure of darkness. Light in the book serves as a guide, changing shape, flowing across the pages, and leading deep into the forest, stones, and space.
In Siberian Taiga's heart, on the border with the city of Krasnoyarsk, there exists a culture, based on special connections with nature, community bonds, and the concept of freedom. Рeople have been coming from the city to ancient syenite rocks, conquering them with free climbing, gathering in companies, forming a unique folklore and way of life. Locals call this culture "stolbism," and the place — Stolby National Park. The main artifact of this culture is the word "SVOBODA" (The Freedom) appeared in meter-high white letters on one of the rocks at the end of the last century. This word contains the essence and soul of people, culture, and place. “Stolby” is a sanctuary, space where one can escape reality, daily routine, social systems, where the experience of coexistence between humans with nature, with others, and with oneself becomes possible. As a part of the culture, I’m responsible with preserving it’s history, present, and uncertain future.
